As any of our friends, family, or team may know, Xtiva’s Social Good Award has become a staple for our programming every month. Whether on social media or through our newsletters, we discuss our social good awards and the causes we support in our communities – but this month we’re addressing an issue that touches each one of us no matter where we live.

Why School Supplies

It’s not unusual to feel like time speeds up when you have kids. Between lessons and activities, our own work and other commitments, back to school time in the fall can feel like it flies by. We want to get out children as ready as possible to excel in their school year. We rarely stop, we are rarely as present as we’d like to be, and in the hustle and bustle, we often forget that in some communities and for many children, having everything they need is not a given.

That’s why for the second year in a row, we’ve nearly doubled our funds for our monthly Social Good Award and have committed it to a back to school drive for schools in need. And, for the second year in a row, we’ve focussed on communities in Miami like Liberty City, Overtown, and Hialeah.

Why Miami

There are deserving schools and kids all over the country, but for a few reasons we have focussed on Miami. First, the schools reached out to be part of our Social Good Award. We rely on communities to nominate organizations in need, and nominating your school is a great way to get some support! Second, whatever our politics in a diverse and engaged organization like Xtiva, we all agree that children – no matter where they came from or how they got here – are our future and should be given every chance at success, because their success is the future success of our communities. So, when we came across several schools Miami that were trying their best to provide for many children who had been separated from their parents and were now in foster care, starting new schools in a new place, we decided to offer a helping hand.

At Xtiva we value education. We cater to organizations – customers who have become our friends over the years – whose main business is investment. This month we’ve chosen to invest in the future of kids who may not have the support systems or stability ours do, but still deserve every chance at success not only in our country but also in whatever path they pursue. The essence of our motto of achieve more is that whatever you can hope to do, you can. We strive to support that in the lives of everyone we can effect in even the smallest ways, and this month we’re doing that through school supplies. Though we may play only a small role in the school year for these kids and their teachers, we believe in supporting the causes true to our heart and values.
